Fear Comes From Not Knowing What to Expect

“ … fear comes from not knowing what to expect and not feeling you have any control over what’s about to happen (or what is imagined could happen – my words)

Quote from Chris Hadfield’s book – “An Astronaut’s Guide to Life”

This is a brilliant exposure of the nature of fear.  The key elements are 1) not knowing, and thereby 2) not feeling in control over what could happen and 3) imagining.  With people I meet who have received a diagnosis of cancer or other serious condition, there are all these elements.  There is the unknown, feeling out of control, and, in effort to manage the situation, running everything that possibly could happen (imagining), which only serves to increase fear.  What can you do to break the fear cycle?  What do you think will help that?  Please leave your thoughts and watch for mine in a future post.
